NetApp 7-Mode Transition Tool (7MTT) is a migration utility designed to move data and configurations from Data ONTAP 7-Mode systems to clustered ONTAP (ONTAP 9). It streamlines the entire transition lifecycle—planning, validation, data copy, and cutover—helping reduce risk and minimize downtime during storage modernization.

Key capabilities:

• Discovery and assessment: Inventories controllers, volumes, LUNs, shares/exports, and related settings, and highlights potential blockers before migration.
• Readiness checks and mapping: Validates source and target environments, then maps 7-Mode constructs to their clustered ONTAP equivalents (SVMs, volumes, LIFs, export policies, and more).
• Orchestrated data copy: Uses SnapMirror-based replication for NAS and SAN workloads, supports iterative updates, and prepares data for a controlled cutover.
• Configuration migration: Transfers key settings such as CIFS/NFS configurations, shares/exports, ACLs and permissions, iGroups, LUN mappings, quotas, and Snapshot schedules.
• Controlled cutover: Automates final synchronization, quiesces services, guides client reattachment, and verifies post-migration health to limit downtime.
• Reporting and audit: Provides detailed logs, status tracking, and reports to support troubleshooting and compliance needs.
• Flexible approaches: Supports copy-based transitions and, in qualifying environments, copy-free transitions that can reuse existing disk shelves.
